Take Control

Social care has changed dramatically over the last few decades, life expectancy, better health care, aspirations and expectations of what life will be. Social policy and government direction is clear that people with disabilities should be more equal and more included society. With this aim putting people in control is fundamental to making this happen. The “take control “ project is about helping people with a learning disability to identify what they need and ways that people can be supported via individual budgets to support the process.

The key drivers for developing this approach are as follows.

  • Valuing People” A strategy for the 21st Century, targets for people in transitions and older people living with family carers
  • Performance indicators in this area are low
  • The voluntary charity sector are the only deliverers in this area
  • In control pilot ( also Known as Individual Budgets / Self Directed Support ) has shown positive outcomes in Cambridgeshire
  • Total transformation targets are very high
  • Aiming high for disabled children (Government strategy)
  • Independence well-being and choice (Social Policy)
  • Modernisation agenda of services
  • Inclusion Charter Mark for Schools  Describe the current situation, why the project is needed, how it fits with the overall team, organisational and/or service objectives, and the advantages of doing the project now

If you are a school that wants to bring about real change for future generations of young people, then we want to hear from you.

Take control is about supporting people with and without disability to really take control of their own life. Take control plans to work with young people across Cambridgeshire to bring together people for mutual support.
